SCRAMBLING FOR WORKERS
The Kabuki Cab Co. was one more than 62 employers set up at WCG International's Spring Job Fair yesterday at the Bay Centre. Hundreds of potential employees attended the event spread over the busy downtown mall. Victoria has had one of the lowest unemployment rates among cities in Canada for more than two years and businesses are scrambling for workers as the busy tourist season approaches. Some employers were adding extra benefits and increasing wages in the increasingly competitive market for workers. For the tourism industry, the challenge is to hire now and hold employees at least until Labour Day.
